It is shocking beyond words that Stormin' Norm is gone. Norm Van Lier was the type of tell it like it is fella that lets everybody know the truth, even during tough/controversial times. Sure his opinions may be shaded once in a while with subjectitivty, but there was no P.C B.S. with Norm. You got the truth. Period. He was old school honesty and integrity that we are sorely in need of today in all facets of American life. Norm Van Lier, a great Chicago Bull's player, announcer, and a member of every family of every long term caring Bulls fan. Like the kindly uncle or father in-law you find and love through thick and thin no matter what happens. He's always in your corner fighting for you. What a joy he was to watch during the Micahel, Scottie, and Phil years. "Scottt--ehhh, my man," he would exclaim with an illustrious cap of respect and recognition for Pippen's emergence from a scared kid from central Arkansas to a thoroughbred stud who became unafraid to take it to the hole. Norm, god I just don't see guys like you around anymore. You are the essence of the best things about the straight-forwardness and toughness and accountability of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Let's hope we can get that honesty and fight for what truly matters back in our society. What a great, entertaining, culturally relevant, and humanly enriching man you were. Good bye, and god bless you, Sir.
