Americans aren't supposed to get angry, they get sarcastic, snide, patronizing, condescending, self-righteous... but not angry. If you want to find Bale's side of things, it's not hard. Despite him yelling "fuck" a lot, he mentions 1) the DP has been wandering behind the scene frequently, 2) he's been asked not to do it more than once, 3) it's not a personal attack, but Bale considers the behaviour unprofessional.
I'm guessing if Bale made a bunch of icy, sarcastic and demeaning comments about the guy's appearance, people would clap with joy and praise him for his "wit". But he lost his cool, so he's a jerk."
I couldn't agree with you more, HT. The passive aggressive movement is becoming more irritating every day.
